Think about a speech, song, or message that has inspired or motivated you. How did the speaker or writer use language to make an impact? Connect your experience to at least one rhetorical device you identified in Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

Prompt Response: A song that inspires me is Reciprocate by Summer Walker. I like it mainly because of how the song sounds but the lyrics are effective too. I don't 100% relate to her songs but she is one of the top artists I listen to when I feel a way or when something happens. It's nice to listen to music that you relate to during a certain time, which Is why I believe why some people say music is therapy because to me it is. Summer Walker makes an impact with the song "Reciprocate" by singing about accountability and reciprocity in a relationship. This can target an audience that are going through the same thing and motivate them to move on for better. Listening to "Reciprocate" by Summer Walker is like a heartfelt person watching the I have a dream speech. Summary: we read the I have a dream speech Reflection: I learned more about the rhetorical devices. I also learned more about the speech as I do every year.

On today’s rhetorical devices test, was it easier to recognize devices from their definitions or identify them in quotations? Explain why, and discuss a device that challenged you, if any. What did this

Prompt Response: Since I'm completing this before I take the test, I hope it's not difficult for me. I'm studying right now and planned to study yesterday but somehow I keep forgetting like I need to start making reminders because my mind will go blank once I get home if it's not anything that's consistent, like homework or something. Right now I just need to memorize definitions and how they're used in sentences to understand. So far I understand a good portion of the rhetorical devices but I just remembered this test randomly at 11:33 in the 4th period. It's quite a certain time to suddenly remember a quiz, but I was scrolling on my phone so I do remember the time. I do hope I pass because I don't have space in my body to stress about a grade.  Summary: Rhetorical devices test Reflection: I'm learning more about the rhetorical devices. I'm learning more about the sentences too.

Think of a fictional character, celebrity, or historical figure you can relate to. Create an allusion that connects your personality or experiences to that person. Explain why you chose that reference.

Prompt Response: I love vampire diaries, that's one of my favorite TV show. Although Stefan Salvatore is my favorite fictional character on the show, I empathize and relate more to Rebekah Mikaelson. If I could choose to be a vampire I would. Rebekah is an original vampire that's loyal, fierce, and passionate. However, she often yearns for normal human life and her missed opportunities as a teenager. Me personally I feel like I'm missing out on my normal teenage activities and want to just be free from family members holding me back, like Rebekah. her brothers often hold her back by leaving her in a coffin for years. If I could put it in an allusion I'd say "my love for vampires and desire to live my life is my Rebekah Mikaelson".  Summary: In class we wrote notes and started on 2 sheets of worksheets with I have a dream speech. Reflection: I learned more about the literacy devices. I also learned more about the I have a dream speech and it's meaning.

Think about a time when someone challenged your opinion or told you that you were wrong. What was the disagreement about, and how did you defend yourself? Did you change their mind, or did they change yours?

Prompt Response: Freshman year in literature class, my teacher had everyone answer a question about should people ever break the law no matter the circumstance. I responded on my paper no and we all had to stand on a certain side of the room. Freshmen me I really didn't care about the debate at all because I hated being here but I was influenced. A girl in the class said yes on her paper and explained that if a pregnant woman was in a rush, would you try to hurry and rush to the hospital, or would you drive the speed limit? I saw where she was coming from and changed my answer, although I didn't really participate in the activity it did change my mind to see it in a different way. I really don't know what I was thinking because if that question was to be asked to me now i'd say yes even if this event never happened.  Summary: We did vocab and exercises on the vocabulary words. Reflection: I learned some of the vocabulary words. I was also exposed to words I have never ...

Have you ever worried about what others think of you? How did it affect your actions or decisions? Share a personal experience and use hypophora at least once in your response.

Prompt Response: Why for most people what others think of them, determines their actions? Because everyone has feelings and what others think about them could cause them to be self-conscious. Personally, I do care and I don't care at the same time of what others think of me because most of the people around me don't matter to me either way. However, the littlest thing someone can say to another person could cause a big issue within themselves. Once a negative thing about me is pointed out I do try to change it for the future as an improvement, but only if I feel like it needs improving. To me at the end of the day if it's people you aren't going to see nor talk to after you graduate, then it doesn't matter.  Summary: absent Reflection: absent

Consider the following statement: "We spend more time connecting online but less time connecting in person." Do you agree or disagree with this antithesis? Explain your perspective using personal experiences. Discuss how technology has influenced the way people communicate and build relationships. In your response, include at least one original example of antithesis.

Prompt Response: Following that statement I do agree with it. However, personally I do feel like with certain people you would have to be in person to get to know them or connect better than online just based off their bad communication skills online. But, with me depending on who you are, I would rather get to know you more online, mainly for "relationships". From personal experiences, getting to know each other online sets the tone for in person. Although both cases can be awkward, everyone has to start somewhere. Technology has influenced the way people communicate because most people don't know how to start an approach or hold a conversation in person because they're used to texting. Text messages do give people more time to think before they speak. For example, during an argument you say exactly what's on your mind in person versus on text you can reword it and can lead to different outcomes. Summary: absent Reflection: absent

Think about a time when you exaggerated something to make a point, tell a story, or get someone's attention. What happened? What did you say? Why did you exaggerate? Looking back, do you think your exaggeration made your message more effective? Explain.

Prompt Response: A time that I've exaggerated something would be an event with my mother. When people exaggerate things, it's to get the other person to either understand them, or believe that they're telling the truth. In this situation I wanted her to understand where I was coming from. I don't remember everything that was said but I wanted to prove and express to her about the situation for her to make improvements. I think my message was effective only in the moment because eventually people forget about certain conversations and go back into their old habits.  Summary: absent Reflection: absent
